The media ran with President Trump’s latest war narratives until the failure became too obvious to spin.

Trump’s much-hyped “Project Freedom” collapsed almost as quickly as it was announced, Iran rejected the latest U.S. peace deal, the Strait is still blocked, and there’s no strategy for getting the U.S. out of this war.

Operation Project Freedom, which also lacked a coherent strategy, was paused less than 48 hours later, with Trump stating the pause was prompted by the “fact that Great Progress has been made toward a Complete and Final Agreement with Representatives of Iran.”

This was a complete lie.

The real reason for the pause… Saudi Arabia denied the use of its airbases to protect ships from attacks by Iran. Reportedly, neither Saudi Arabia nor any other Gulf state was informed of the project ahead of time, which didn’t sit well.

Riyadh considered Project Freedom “unnecessarily escalatory and not well thought through,” which perfectly sums up the United States’ course of action throughout this war. Even Iran’s top negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, couldn’t resist posting: “Operation Trust Me Bro failed.”

You know there’s a problem when top White House officials don’t seem to know what’s going on. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was promoting Project Freedom as the Administration’s next major focus just hours before it was shelved.

With Project Freedom off the table, what’s next? Well, for starters, the U.S. bombed Iranian ports on Thursday, and Trump warned that the U.S. would strike Iran “a lot harder, and a lot more violently” unless Tehran signs a deal “fast.” He also added, “I’ll let you know when there’s no ceasefire… You’re just going to have to look at one big glow coming out of Iran.”

So after all the dramatic announcements and victory lap headlines, we’re right back where we started.
