Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu isn’t hiding his intentions for Gaza, and why would he when those with the power to stop him continue looking the other way.
What are his intentions? He recently said, “At this point, we are fully in control of 60 percent of the territory of the Gaza Strip … and my directive is to get to … 70 percent.” Then, after someone in the room called for Israel to take “100 percent” of Gaza, Netanyahu responded, “First 70 percent. We’ll start with that.”
Think about what that statement actually means. This isn’t being framed as a temporary military operation but more like a gradual takeover of an entire territory, killing its residents in the process, while the world sits back and lets it happen.
And what’s left of Gaza at this point? About 81 percent of all structures in the Gaza Strip have been damaged, 22 hospitals have been targeted, and entire neighborhoods have been flattened into dust. Families are living in dirty, overcrowded tents pitched among the piles of rubble that used to be their homes.
Current conditions in Gaza are nightmarish, with children sleeping beside rats and being bitten in the middle of the night while food, medicine, and clean water continue to disappear. Things have become even more desperate as the World Central Kitchen, the territory’s main hot meal provider, was forced to reduce daily food distribution by half.
On Wednesday, an Israeli air raid struck a residential building in northern Gaza, killing at least 10 civilians, among them four children, and injuring more than 20 others. This comes as no surprise, with local authorities saying Israel has violated the terms of the ceasefire more than 3,000 times since October.
On the same day, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced plans to drive Palestinians out of Gaza under the framework of a “voluntary migration.” Translation: we’ll be bombing and starving the Palestinians out.
Israel began this assault on Gaza in October 2023, and since then, more than 72,000 Palestinians have been killed while over 172,000 others have been injured.
Think about those numbers for a minute.
This is a horrific ethnic cleansing happening in plain sight, yet world leaders who preach about human rights are doing nothing to stop it. Instead, Israel’s war crimes against Gaza have been funded from the start and continue to be funded.
