President Trump has rejected Iran’s proposal that would have reopened the Strait of Hormuz first, ahead of nuclear talks. Instead, he’s doubling down on the blockade, using it as pressure despite evidence that it’s not having any impact.

And if that “pressure” doesn’t work, the Pentagon has a plan in place: a short, concentrated wave of strikes aimed at forcing Iran back to the table.

So it seems to be the same old strategy of escalate first, then negotiate. But why would the U.S. think this would suddenly work now? Because so far, we haven’t seen any results. Not one strategic goal has been achieved. The blockade hasn’t changed anything. And according to reports from Washington, the president has said the blockade could go on for a long time.

In another move from the same playbook, Trump is claiming on one hand that Iran is weakening. On the other hand, the U.S. is preparing for more force because it isn’t.

And while Washington focuses on doing more of the same, the rest of the world is concerned about the impact of a drawn-out war.

Even Vladimir Putin has warned against further escalation:

“The Russian president emphasized the inevitable, extremely dire consequences not only for Iran and its neighbors, but for the entire international community, should the U.S. and Israel resort to the use of force again. And, of course, a ground operation on Iranian territory is regarded as a completely unacceptable and dangerous option,” a Kremlin aide stated.

That reads less like a warning and more like a preview of what’s to come. Because the longer this drags on, the more likely it is that other countries will join forces to put a stop to it. The idea of a Chinese fleet on the horizon is no longer far-fetched.

So what’s the objective here, and whose interests is the U.S. really serving?

Because from the outside, this looks less like a clear strategy and more like an agenda being carried out to keep in line with Israeli interests.

It’s certainly not for the American people… who didn’t ask for this war, didn’t vote for it, yet will be left dealing with the consequences.
