I found this video to be a great aid in helping decide on what to get. I like Spartan Armor Systems as it's made in America and tested.

In this Body Armor 101 segment Rob Orgel of ER Tactical covers various self defense scenarios and applicable Spartan Armor Systems® body armor plate carriers. Each type of plate carrier has it's pros and cons, it's best to choose a plate carrier that will fit the scenario(s) you're most likely to encounter. Spartan Armor Systems® manufactures quality plate carriers ranging from concealable carriers to battle-ready tactical plate carriers.

Personally, I also like the carriers that have a quick release side. I enjoy covert ops and stealth missions and as such, want to be able to remove or adjust the carrier without the ripping noise. On night missions I've been on in our survival games, it's crazy essential to try and make everything on your kit as quiet as possible.

If you get the quick release, make sure you tape them down from. From what I've heard if you have to go prone or move through thick vegetation it's possible to pop a quick release off. Still way quieter than loop, but you have to have the fit down when you latch it, usually less adjustable. I have them on my new plate carrier from Big Daddy unlimited. But i mostly just stand around in mine so i don't know from experience. However the QR is originally mainly so someone can get to you to treat you for an injury, being able to ditch out of kit fast and get that weight off is a welcome side benefit.
